God revealed to a fourteenth-century saint, Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373), that seven great benefits accrue to those who worship Jesus Christ by the devotion to the seven sorrows of His mother, Mary.

Devotion to the sorrows of Mary consists of brief daily meditation and prayers in memory of each of seven sorrows she experienced during earthly life. The Gift Shop has excellent books, devotionals, rosaries and chaplets to Our Lady of Sorrows.

These seven sorrows of our Blessed Mother included:

1. The prophecy of Simeon at the presentation in the Temple
2. The flight of the Holy Family into Egypt
3. The loss and finding of the child Jesus in the Temple
4. Mary encounters Jesus on the Way of the Cross
5. Mary's standing at the foot of the cross when our Lord was crucified
6. Mary holding of Jesus when He was taken down from the cross
7. Jesus is Laid in the Tomb
