Sacramental prep students are mainstreamed into our regular catechetical program. We recommend enrollment in Children's Catechesis no later than kindergarten. This provides the best foundation for proper reception of the sacraments at the appropriate ages, and encourages lifelong catechesis.
What about children who have not made their sacraments according to the norms in the Diocese of Phoenix?
If a child age is seven or older and:
- Not baptized or was baptized outside the Catholic Church . . .
- Is third grade or older and has not made First Reconciliation . . .
- Is fourth grade or older and has not made 1st Communion or
made 1st Communion in another diocese, but has not been Confirmed . . .
special arrangements must be made to help the child “catch up”. Each family has a unique history.
With this in mind, we work with these children and their families on a case by case basis.
There are three essentials to get started:
- 1. Faithfully attend Sunday Mass at STA
- 2. Register in the Parish Office and use envelopes when you attend Mass.
- 3. Email or call the Director of Children’s Catechesis for an appointment.
What if my child has special needs? Children with special needs may prepare for and receive Confirmation and 1st Communion with their peers as long as they are able to participate in the rites with reverence. Using the student’s IEP and other pertinent information provided by a parent, we will collaborate to develop a plan of sacramental preparation consistent with each child’s abilities.
